XESS Spreadsheet and MCAD Integration

Product design and development is more complex today, with more products, closer tolerances, and shorter cycles. The XESS spreadsheet system is a highly effective way to add complementary functionality to MCAD modeling and manufacturing applications for amazing productivity gains.

XESS/Unigraphics CAD/CAM/CAE integration (shown in Scenarios 1 and 2 below) combines the power of the Unigraphics CAD/CAM/CAE system with the flexibility of the XESS spreadsheet for applications including parametric modeling, families of parts, and knowlege-based engineering. The Xess spreadsheet technology can be applied similarly to other MCAD application environments.

In Scenario 1, UG users can select a standard size from the DME Catalog worksheet and immediately see the impact on the related analytical scenarios reflected in the Mold Base Design & Analysis worksheet. By simply selecting the Update UG Part operation from the Xess menu, a new mold base is created in UG using the new sizes. Scenarios like these can be implemented using the standard Xess Connections API toolkit with any host MCAD application environment.

In Scenario 2, UG users enjoy the benefit of the Xess spreadsheet customized and embedded within the EDS Unigraphics product as part of the UG product environment. Using the embedded-Xess API Toolkit, EDS develops UG-specific spreadsheet extensions which include powerful @-functions such as @MASS3D and menu-driven functionality reflected in additional UG-menus on the Xess main menu bar. EDS is, in effect, using the Xess spreadsheet system as part of their development methodology. Licensed Xess end-users and other MCAD product suppliers can apply the Xess spreadsheet technology similarly.
